- Nagri College Students Learn About Child Protection Laws and 1098 Helpline
Raipur, September 24, 2026/ A special awareness programme on child rights, safety and protection was organised at Government Sukhram Nage College, Nagri, in Dhamtari district under Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. The programme was organised jointly by the Women and Child Development Department, District Child Protection Unit and Child Helpline, under the direction of the district administration.
During the programme, the Project Coordinator provided students with simple and practical information on child rights and relevant laws. Students were sensitised to serious issues including cybercrime, child abuse, sexual violence, child labour, child marriage and human trafficking.
Emphasising digital safety, students were advised to maintain distance from strangers on social media and never share personal information or important documents with unknown persons.
Students were also briefed on key provisions of laws enacted to protect child rights, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
The programme highlighted the role of the 24-hour toll-free Child Helpline 1098 and emergency service 112. Students were urged not to remain silent if they witnessed any form of violence or exploitation and to immediately report such incidents to the concerned authorities. Information was also shared on the harmful effects of substance abuse and government child care institutions. The programme was attended by the Child Helpline Supervisor, District Women Protection Officer, Mission Shakti Coordinator, college principal, faculty members and a large number of students.
