KORBA, OCTOBER 8: A mock drill on disaster management and emergency response was conducted at Hasdeo Bango Hydroelectric Power House, Machadoli, on Wednesday to assess the preparedness of the fire and emergency response teams in handling a critical situation.
During the exercise, a simulated fire outbreak was created in the transformer yard. As soon as the emergency siren was sounded, the fire and emergency response team swung into action and reached the spot as per the prescribed emergency response procedure. The fire personnel demonstrated effective control over the simulated fire within around seven minutes.
The exercise focused on preventing the fire from spreading to other sections of the transformer yard and demonstrated the technical and practical procedures to be followed during an emergency. The mock drill was aimed at improving quick decision-making, coordination and effective response among personnel during an actual emergency.

The drill was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Superintending Engineer (Operation and Maintenance) Rakesh Chandra Gupta. Superintending Engineer (Safety) Rajesh Banjara, Safety Officer Piyush Somani and Fire Officer Panaria, along with plant officials, employees and security personnel, participated in the exercise.
During the drill, the fire officer and fire personnel also provided practical training to officials, employees and contract workers on the proper use of firefighting equipment and techniques to control fire. The participants were briefed on emergency procedures, teamwork and safety precautions to be followed during a critical situation.
Speaking on the occasion, Rakesh Chandra Gupta said every second was crucial during an emergency and regular practice was essential to deal with unforeseen situations effectively. He said mock drills help boost the confidence of employees and develop their ability to respond promptly and in a coordinated manner during an actual emergency.
He urged all officials and employees to remain alert, vigilant and committed to safety at all times. Other officials and security personnel also actively participated in the mock drill.
