RAIPUR, Sept 14: BALCO Medical Centre (BMC) will organise the fourth edition of the BMC Chhattisgarh Cancer Conclave from September 18 to 20 at Mayfair Lake Resorts, Naya Raipur, bringing together more than 200 national and regional oncology experts and 11 international faculty members.
The three-day conclave will be held on the theme ‘Restoring Balance to Cancer Care’ and will focus on breast, gynaecological and genitourinary cancers. The discussions will centre on treatment choices, patient-centric care and the need to avoid unnecessary medical interventions.
The event will also mark the seventh year of the Choosing Wisely India meeting, being organised in collaboration with ecancer, Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, and the National Cancer Grid.
The international faculty will include experts from the UK, USA, UAE, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Israel, Belgium, Canada and Switzerland. The scientific programme will cover developments in cancer treatment, clinical research, precision oncology, radiation, surgery and emerging technologies.
The conclave will feature more than 20 panel discussions, multidisciplinary sessions, debates and case-based discussions. Live surgical demonstrations in breast cancer will also be conducted.
Hands-on workshops will be organised on interstitial brachytherapy, clinical research and clinical trial development, germline genetics and precision oncology, oncopathology, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and next-generation nuclear medicine and theranostics.
A Women for Oncology (W4O India) networking and mentorship meeting will also be held during the conclave to provide women professionals in oncology an opportunity to exchange experiences and explore mentorship and leadership opportunities.
Speaking about the event, Dr Bhawna Sirohi, Medical Director, Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, said that bringing global and national experts together with regional oncologists would help strengthen cancer-care capabilities locally. She said the conclave also focuses on building the capabilities of the next generation of oncologists. BMC supports 50 young doctors from across India with travel bursaries every year to attend the conclave.
An art and heritage exhibition, ‘Canvas for ‘A’ Life’, will also be organised in support of the BMC Charitable Fund. The fund provides assistance to patients through gap funding for treatment, diagnostics and nutrition, besides supporting accommodation and logistics during treatment.
The previous edition witnessed participation of more than 1,000 delegates, including clinicians, students and healthcare professionals. Registration for this year’s conclave is open through the official BMC website. Delegates and faculty members will also be eligible for CME credit points from the Chhattisgarh Medical Council, Raipur.
