KORBA: Guides and Rangers from Korba represented Chhattisgarh at the National Environment Awareness-cum-Desert Tracking Camp organised in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The camp was organised under the aegis of the National Headquarters of The Bharat Scouts and Guides, New Delhi, with around 160 participants from nine States taking part.The Divisional Training Centre at Devikund Sagar served as the base camp. Rover Leader Rajiv Kumar Sahu led the Chhattisgarh contingent from Korba, comprising Rangers Varsha Sahu and Ankita Ratre and Guides Omeshvari, Aishwarya Kaushik and Deepti. Four Rovers from Bilaspur district also participated.
During the camp, participants received practical training in desert tracking, nature study, environmental conservation, water conservation, cleanliness and biodiversity. They undertook nearly 50 km of trekking and gained first-hand knowledge of the vegetation, terrain and climatic conditions of the Bikaner desert. The participants also trekked through the Jorbeer Desert Area and visited the National Research Centre on Camel, where they were acquainted with desert ecology and camel research and conservation activities.
A Grand Campfire was organised as part of the programme, during which the Chhattisgarh contingent presented a folk dance showcasing the State’s rich cultural heritage.Camp Director and Assistant Director of The Bharat Scouts and Guides Shivangi Saxena said the programme provided participants an opportunity to closely understand Bikaner’s geographical conditions, besides gaining an insight into its historical and spiritual heritage.
